Y2 Numerical Methods
What
You have done some work on this topic at GCSE when you did iterations. At A-level this is extended to cover a range of related topics. What they have in common is that you will be using numerical methods to find approximate solutions to problems rather than an algebraic methods.
The topic covers:
Find solutions to equations using a change of sign rule
Iterations. This is what you did at GCSE, but you will need to be able to form the iterative formulae to find the approximate solution to an equation and be able to recognise and interpret graphical presentation of an iterative formula using cobweb and staircase diagrams.
The Newton Raphson method to find the solution of to equation
Use of the trapezium rule to find the area under a curve
