Y1 Presenting Data
What
You need to be confident with the use of all Statistics topics in GCSE related to representing data. In each case a deeper understanding of them is needed at A-level. You should be clear for each graph, what it tells us, when it would be appropriate to use one.
Scatter Graphs.
You need to extend your understanding of the scatter graphs. You should understand the difference meaning of correlation and causation and know that they are not the same thing.
This topic is extended in year 2 to be able to measure correlation, use regression lines and perform hypothesis tests.
Box Plots
You will need to develop a deeper understanding of box-plots, what they tell us and when it would be appropriate to use one. You will be learn how to recognise and deal with outliers.
Cumulative Frequency Graphs
Histograms
At GCSE the area of a box on a histogram is equal to the frequency being represented. At A-Level, there is a key difference and the area of the box is proportional to the frequency. This difference means that often, students find this one of the most difficult topics on the course.
